Please note: vehicle will handle and wheel very differently with high loads on the roof. We recommend securing kayaks, canoes, and items that may generate resistance or lift at speed properly to the front and rear of the vehicle, not just the rack.

Adding a roof rack to a soft top equipped vehicle is likely to increase wind noise at medium to high speeds.

26 Questions asked on Bronco Soft Top Roof Rack | 6th Gen (21+)

Ask us anything

Q Alex • 11/23/2022, 4:08:34 PM Can I uninstall the rack to fold the top down and then reinstall the rack with the top in the down position?
A 11/23/2022, 4:21:25 PM Yes, the top can be installed with the top already folded or fully removed. At only 100 lbs, the rack was designed to be removable with 2-3 people if the need arises to fold or remove the top
Q Mike S • 11/23/2022, 4:10:41 PM Does the rack mount rest on the rear quarter panel?
A 11/23/2022, 4:19:15 PM The lower mounting bracket does contact the top of the rear quarter panel, but the load is carried by the substructure, not the body panel. Die cut santoprene rubber is supplied with the rack to pad the mating surface, and we recommend using 3M VHB to protect the paint from damage with the collection of dust or debris.
Q Steven E • 11/23/2022, 4:16:27 PM Does this rack work with a hard top?
A 11/23/2022, 4:22:04 PM It does not.
Q Joseph • 11/24/2022, 8:17:23 PM How is it assembled? Can the front fairing and rear towers be left in place while removing the rack portion?
A 12/01/2022, 1:07:33 PM Yes you can. But to fold back the soft top completely, you would need to pull the fairing and the rear towers.
Q Kennedy • 11/25/2022, 10:21:40 AM Can I remove the rack-only portion leaving the chase rack and front faring installed? It looks to be 8-12 bolts, is this correct? Also as I understand the rack is approximately 100 lbs, what weight (approximately) would that rack-only portion be? Lastly, if it is possible to remove the rack and leave the front faring and chase installed, would a canoe/kayak/skis be able to be propped between these two supports for short drive transports (sub 1 km distance and under 40km per hour speeds)
A 12/01/2022, 1:07:33 PM Yes you can. But to fold back the soft top completely, you would need to pull the fairing and the rear towers. Correct, it is (10) bolts removed, and an addition (4) loosened to remove the rack portion. The rack itself is about half of the weight. We haven't tested any loads on just the rear supports and the fairing (like a kayak,) but at slow speeds it could be fine. That would certainly be up to your discretion.
Q Bret • 11/25/2022, 6:53:59 PM What is the dimensions of roof rack? Can an awning be mounted on one of sides with the JCR awning bracket?
A 12/01/2022, 11:46:10 AM Total rack space is roughly 72"Lx51"W. this is including the surface of the steel cross bar on the chase rack portion, which is 8" wide. Yes, you can use our awning mounts.
Q Bret • 11/25/2022, 6:56:50 PM Where/how would you recommend chasing/routing wiring to roof rack for solar, rack lights or a RTT?
A 12/01/2022, 11:46:10 AM The best place to get the wiring to the rack would be up the roll bar in back and outside along with the tie-in brackets from the rack side rails to the rollbar.
Q Claudio • 11/25/2022, 8:27:34 PM Does 42 in diody dynamics light bar fit in space?
A 12/01/2022, 11:36:08 AM No, it won't.
Q Ronie • 12/11/2022, 5:48:34 PM Can this support a 270 degree awning? If so, which mount would I need?
A 12/13/2022, 3:27:42 PM It can support the weight, but you would need to mount the awning on top of the rack to clear the rear supports. The universal style 270 awning "L" brackets mounted on top of the rack could work.
Q Bill L • 01/12/2023, 6:05:07 PM Has any current customer with this roof rack, used it with a roof top tent? If so, when a tent is installed and being used, does the rack flex at all? Concerned with it flexing into the soft top. Finally, per the installation video it looks like there is a bracket at the rear brackets that mounts through the top edge of the side portion of the soft top which makes it look like the top where the velcro meets the side will have a portion of the bracket mounted through it.
A 01/20/2023, 5:04:32 PM We have had a tent on it without issues. Yes, it does mount through the soft top.
Q MARTIN • 01/16/2023, 9:42:06 PM If I have a KC 50" pro6 light bar would this roof rack work with it if I order without light bar cutout? Any modifications that could be required or not possible at all
A 01/20/2023, 5:19:13 PM We haven't tried it, so we aren't sure. You likely would either have to run it without a fairing at all or mount the light bar above the rack.
Q Justin JOnas • 02/28/2023, 11:16:14 AM Has anyone confirmed if the soft top rack is compatible with the Bestop Trektop for the new Bronco 4 door yet?
A 03/13/2023, 4:14:43 PM We have not.
Q Tommy • 03/06/2023, 8:39:13 PM What is the total weight of the soft top roof rack?
A 03/13/2023, 4:14:43 PM 100 lbs
Q Bob • 03/18/2023, 11:01:50 PM In the install video you talk about paint protection film on the windshield header and other locations. Is that included; do you sell it; or can you re in tomorrow, or can you recommend anything it’s really hard to break through the?
A 03/30/2023, 3:37:00 PM It's not included, but search Amazon for "3M Clear Paint Protection Vinyl Film" and you will find a ton of options on sizes.
Q Greg • 03/25/2023, 3:18:13 PM Can this be installed without the front fairing windshield?
A 03/30/2023, 3:55:08 PM It can not.
Q Manuel • 03/26/2023, 4:23:32 PM Can you install a roof tewnt on it?
A 03/30/2023, 3:55:08 PM Yes, it can hold 200 lbs of dynamic weight, evenly distributed.
Q Greg • 03/30/2023, 3:49:30 PM How would a Roof top tent be mounted, towards the front or towards the rear? If the tent is 63 inches long?
A 03/30/2023, 4:05:39 PM We would center it on the rack.
Q Alex Tvaroha • 04/03/2023, 8:39:39 PM If using a rooftop tent it’s only recommended for 1-200lb person ?
A 04/17/2023, 6:29:27 PM 200lbs dynamic is the moving rating of the rack. The rack can handle 600lbs static (vehicle stopped.)
Q Greg • 04/08/2023, 10:48:33 PM Would this light bar fit the cut out 40 inch roof rack fairing: Baja Designs Roof Rack 7 XL Linkable Kit
A 04/17/2023, 6:29:27 PM We have not tested that.
Q Gregory • 08/09/2023, 4:06:47 PM What size Rotopax work on the side 3 gallons? Each side? Does the weight of the rotopax with fuel count towards the 200 pound weight limit?
A 11/30/2023, 3:16:51 PM Pictured we are showing the rack with 2 gallon Rotopax. You would want to factor that weight into the overall weight consideration.
Q Tim • 09/01/2023, 9:35:31 AM Can you use just the rear part of the rack?
A 12/05/2023, 5:22:54 PM No, to use you would need to install the full rack.
Q Garrett • 11/06/2023, 8:42:11 PM How much height does the roof rack add?
A 11/08/2023, 11:28:57 AM It will add roughly 4.5 inches in overall height.
Q Gregory • 12/25/2023, 1:17:06 AM Would a 83 inch long tent work on your rack? Or would that 11 inches of over hang to much?
A 01/23/2024, 4:43:05 PM That shouldn't be an issue as long as the tents mounting brackets are evenly spaced.
Q Roy • 01/10/2024, 9:24:33 PM Will there be an option later to convert this roof rack to adapt to a hard top ?
A 01/17/2024, 11:23:23 AM No, our hard top roof rack can be found here. https://www.jcroffroad.com/product/BR6RK-HT-F.html
Q Chris • 03/09/2024, 6:22:10 AM Is this roof rack compatible with a 2 door not with a hard top
A 03/11/2024, 11:31:08 AM No, this rack is not compatible with 2 door Broncos.
Q Dave Drives • 06/26/2024, 9:50:00 PM Can you attach any Kayak cradles
A 07/08/2024, 4:36:40 PM Of course! Standard kayak-mounts can be mounted to the crossbars.
